Increasing energy access.

Somu Energy was a Nepal-based social venture I co-founded after the devasting 2015 earthquake, with the mission to radically change the way rural villagers use and access electricity. We provided energy access and created local jobs by renting out battery banks and operating solar charging stations that were run by local entrepreneurs.

My role as co-founder and creative director was to develop the brand identity, website, packaging, and marketing assets. The identity was inspired by Nepalese culture, our audience, and our mission. We worked exclusively with rural communities that lacked the most basic energy needs and who were hit hardest by natural disasters.

The logomark was derived from the elephant's integral role in Nepal's history, both in legend and domestication, as symbols of strength and status. The primary brand colors orange and yellow symbolize joy, success, and the renewable energy of the sun.
